Location: Columbus, Ohio
Size: 1350 SF
Principles: Lighting, Specifications, Retail, Culture
Exploring the technicalities of lighting along with exploratory design freedom, designing a street-wear store that creates an experience in tandem with art galleries for local artists combined creativity with technical skill. Getting to explore a cultural history that has steadily grown through time challenged both technical and creative skills along with new knowledge regarding lighting practices in commercial interior design. Creating a new storefront for a hypothetical brand in a thriving city of Columbus proposes a new opportunity for a storefront not often seen in the area.

Visual Positioning Board

Taking inspiration from urban lighting along with lighting principles of ambient luminescence and play of brilliance, lighting within the retail space creates a unique experience for customers. While providing enough light to appreciate the craftsmanship and design of the unique collections along with a catered experience for reflection of the brand, light plays a crucial role in the defining of the space alongside the brand. Pulling inspiration photos from a variety of sources and styles, the lighting scheme takes on a modern feel with lots of indirect fixtures and light becoming a destination within the space. The urban and industrial feel of neon and concrete paired with artistic modern fixtures and set-ups establishes a precedent for the space as a whole along with the creative direction of the clothing brand to come.
